North Carolina’s On-Site Water Protection Branch provides statewide oversight for subsurface onsite wastewater systems and works in conjunction with local health departments. The state’s current onsite wastewater framework includes 15A NCAC 18E, along with applicable North Carolina statutes.

Avoid using the toilet or sink as a disposal system for materials that do not belong in household wastewater.
Moreover, items such as wipes, feminine hygiene products, paper towels, grease, cooking oil and other non-degradable materials can contribute to plumbing or septic problems.
